Marie A. (DiDomenico) Vaudo, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Burlington on Saturday, November 1, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Vaudo, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in 2012.
Born in Cambridge, MA on March 7, 1934, to the late Nicola and Tina (Camelio) DiDomenico, Marie was raised in their family home on Porter Street, along with her brother and sister. Marie worked as a seamstress for several years. It was during this time that she met her adoring husband, Sal, and the two quickly fell in love and were married in Italy in 1962. A few years later, in 1967, they decided to settle down in their forever home in Burlington.
Marie created a warm, loving, and supportive home for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, who took immense joy in looking after her children - and later, her grandchildren. Sunday dinners were an event at Marie’s home, where her family gathered to share in her home-cooked meals. Whether it was sauce and meatballs, or her special Anise Cake, there was never a chance of leaving Marie’s home hungry.
As her children grew, Marie kept herself busy by taking a job at the Reeves Elementary School as a lunch monitor. She held this position for 16 years and enjoyed every minute she spent with the students there, who affectionately called her “Mrs. V”. She also enjoyed spending time by the pool and taking trips with her family to Sebago Lake and Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Having family in Gaeta, Italy was a great source of pride for Marie, and she cherished her many visits there. At home, Marie could be found relaxing with a good book, enjoying a nice glass of Sangiovese, scratching one or two scratch tickets, or sneaking cheese and crackers to the family dogs, Tucker and Oliver. Marie also looked forward to watching Wheel of Fortune with her family every night; it brought her great pleasure.
Outside of her home, Marie found joy in being part of her community. She spent time at the Burlington Senior Center, where she especially loved singing in the choir on Thursdays, listening to the jazz band, or watching a movie on Mondays. A lifelong bookworm, she loved to read and enjoyed her quiet visits to the library. During the summer months, one of her greatest pleasures was attending concerts on the Burlington Common, where she delighted in the music and the company of friends.
More than anything, Marie loved and adored her family. Her children and grandchildren were truly the light of her world, and she effortlessly made them a constant priority. Whether she was attending one of their many major life events, or just sitting at home reminiscing, she was always a warm, loving, and comforting presence. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marie was truly one of a kind. Her kindness, selflessness, heartwarming smile, and steadfast faith will be tremendously missed by all who knew her.
Sadly, Marie was predeceased by her beautiful son, Daniel; her loving husband, Sal; her brother, Salvatore DiDomenico and his late wife, Marie.
She is lovingly survived by her three children, Marianne Malvarosa and her husband Stanley of Woburn, Salvatore Vaudo, Jr. and his partner Desiree of Northfield, Vermont, and David Vaudo and his wife Alicia of Burlington; her cherished grandchildren, Giuliana Malvarosa, Francesca Malvarosa, Skyla Vaudo, Lucas Vaudo, Jess Vaudo, Beau Vaudo, and Nicholas Vaudo; her sister, Linda Cafarella and her husband Ronald of Belmont, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and wonderful friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, November 7th from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 10 am at St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Marie’s honor may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital and The Burlington Senior Center.
