Obituary of Rosa Hernandez Carillo

Rosa Hernandez Carillo, 87, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Rosa was the eldest of twelve siblings. From a young age, she demonstrated strength, independence, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life around her. After earning her university degree in Colombia, she went on to work for many years as a dedicated medical assistant, where her compassion and work ethic touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.

As her children began to establish their lives in the United States, Rosa decided it was time to embark on a new journey herself. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1999, to be closer to her family and to share in the joy of watching her grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren, grow. Family was at the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Rosa was known for her generous spirit and her commitment to helping others. She volunteered often, especially with the Red Cross, where her kindness and energy made a lasting impact. Her love of nature and animals was evident to all who knew her; whether walking outdoors or surrounding herself with pets, she found peace and happiness in the natural world.

A true New Englander at heart, Rosa became an avid New England Patriots fan and never missed a chance to cheer on her team. She also enjoyed spending time with loved ones over board games, particularly her favorite, Parqués. Music was another great passion of hers, and her home was often filled with the sounds of Andrea Bocelli, the Blue Knights, and Pavarotti.

Rosa lived her life with determination and grace. She was a go-getter who approached every goal with quiet strength and unwavering perseverance. Her warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her four daughters, Maria Galvis of Burlington, Angela Galvis and her husband Alberio Montoya of Hudson, NH., Martha Galvis of Burlington, and Nelly Barrera and her husband Carlos of Burlington, eight grand children, seven great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday, November 6th from 4pm to 7pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Her funeral services will start from the funeral home on Friday November 7th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church in St. Veronica’s Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington, at 10am. Services will conclude with a burial at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.

Nacida en Bogotá, Colombia, Rosa era la mayor de doce hermanos. Desde temprana edad, demostró fuerza, independencia y un profundo aprecio por la belleza de la vida que la rodea. Después de obtener su título universitario en Colombia, pasó a trabajar durante muchos años como asistente médica dedicada, donde su compasión y ética de trabajo tocaron la vida de innumerables pacientes y colegas.

Cuando sus hijos comenzaron a establecer sus vidas en los Estados Unidos, Rosa decidió que era hora de embarcarse ella misma en un nuevo viaje. Ella emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1999, para estar más cerca de su familia y compartir la alegría de ver crecer a sus nietos, y más tarde a sus bisnietos. La familia estaba en el centro de su mundo, y ella apreciaba cada momento que pasaba con ellos.

Rosa era conocida por su espíritu generoso y su compromiso de ayudar a los demás. Ella fue voluntaria a menudo, especialmente con la Cruz Roja, donde su amabilidad y energía tenían un impacto duradero. Una verdadera New Englander de corazón, Rosa se convirtió en una ávida fanática de los New England Patriots y nunca perdió la oportunidad de animar a su equipo. También disfrutaba pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos en juegos de mesa, particularmente su favorito, Parqués. La música era otra de sus grandes pasiones, y su casa a menudo estaba llena de los sonidos de Andrea Bocelli, los Blue Knights y Pavarotti.

Le sobreviven sus cuatro hijas, Maria Galvis de Burlington, Angela Galvis y su esposo Alberio Montoya de Hudson, NH., Martha Galvis de Burlington, y Nelly Barrera y su esposo Carlos de Burlington, ocho nietos, siete bisnietos, así como muchas sobrinas, sobrinos y amigos cercanos.
