Paul S. Woodfin, age 92, passed away peacefully at Brooksby Village in Peabody on Monday, November 3, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia” Ginny” (Day) Woodfin, with whom he had shared many wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing in 2019.
Born in Marblehead, MA on January 4, 1933, he was one of two children to the late Charles and Marion (Bowden) Woodfin. Paul attended Lynn Technical High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, and he was an active dutyman during the Korean War and rose to the rank of Airman 2nd Class.
Upon his honorable discharge, Paul began a long and fulfilling career as a mechanical technician with Varian Associates in Beverly, where he worked for over 35 years alongside his cherished colleagues building high-frequency radar tubes.
In his free time, Paul loved to be by the water. Whether he was sailing around Marblehead or just spending time at his lake house on Long Lake, he found true solace along any shoreline. He was also never one to waste a single thing. A skilled and resourceful handyman, Paul approached every project with his signature confidence—beginning most with the words, “I can do this.”
Paul’s love for the outdoors began at a young age through camping, where he made lifelong friends. He had many friends and was always first to volunteer his time to help them with any project or lend them a helping hand if needed. He especially enjoyed evenings spent playing Rummikub, dominoes, and cards with close friends. Paul loved country western music and when one of his favorite tunes came on the radio he would get up and dance around the room. Ginny and Paul also spent many years square dancing. Paul will be remembered lovingly by all who knew him for his kindness, humor, and can-do spirit.
Paul’s sister, Joyce Thorner and her late husband Gordon pre-deceased him. He leaves his cousin Greg Burt and his wife Laurie of Marblehead, his cherished friends, Leslie-Anne Entwistle of Beverly, and Paulette Breton of Beverly, a nephew Lawrence Day and his wife Peggy of Clinton, CT and great-nieces, Samantha, Jessica, Amanda, and Elizabeth, as well as many other beloved friends and family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service for Paul on Friday, November 14th at 1:00 pm at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. A luncheon and celebration of life will follow. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
