Skyler Copeland Van Arsdell, a bright, kind-hearted young man who loved nature and the outdoors, passed away after an accident on December 2, 2025. He was just 31 years old.
Skyler was born in Natick, the son of Frances Gillespie and Scott Van Arsdell. He enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in Lexington and was a proud graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 2012, where he was a member of the lacrosse team. He later continued his education at Middlesex Community College.
Skyler was a true people person who found his calling in the restaurant industry. He began his career at Margaritas Restaurant in Lexington and worked at several other restaurants before finding his place at the 110 Grill in Maynard. He had a special connection with his coworkers and a warm, genuine way of making every customer feel welcome. Skyler also loved animals, which motivated him to work at Best Friend’s Pet Care in Sudbury.
Skyler’s love for the outdoors was a defining part of who he was. He learned to ski as a child, spending countless days on the slopes of Loon Mountain and Sunday River. He also had the chance to “Ski the West” in Utah at both Snowbird and Alta. Some of his happiest moments were spent hiking with his family. Camping trips to the White Mountains were treasured traditions, especially their stays at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Cold River Camp in Evans Notch, NH. There, the family would rent a cabin, explore the many surrounding trails, and end their days with community dinners shared with fellow hikers. Skyler also had the opportunity to hike in Yellowstone National Park and Arches National Park in Utah.
He was an avid golfer, often playing with family and friends. Whether on a mountain trail, a ski slope, or a golf course, Skyler simply loved being outside—challenging himself, breathing in the fresh air, and appreciating the incredible beauty of the natural world. Skyler was also a passionate Boston sports fan and attended many Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics games.
Skyler was a friendly, outgoing, and gentle soul who left this world far too soon. His passing leaves heavy hearts, but his memory, spirit, and the many moments he shared with those he loved will be cherished forever.
Skyler was the loving son of Frances Gillespie of Sudbury and Scott Van Arsdell of East Falmouth. He was the brother of Eleanor Van Arsdell. He was the grandson of the late John and Anna Gillespie and late John and Elizabeth Van Arsdell. Skyler was the nephew of John & Betty Gillespie, Heidi Van Arsdell, Jan & Mitzi Van Arsdell, Valerie Barnes, and Tyler Van Arsdell. Skyler was also survived by many cousins and friends.
