James A. "Jim" Koutrouba Obituary

James A. Koutrouba of Wilmington, “Kout”, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025.  He was the beloved husband of Georgiann (Mirageas) Koutrouba, with whom he shared over 55 wonderful years of marriage.  He was a kind, unassuming man who helped others whenever he could.

Jim was the son of the late Angelo J. Koutrouba and Nota (Angelopoulos) Koutrouba.  He graduated from Woburn High School and received his bachelor's and master’s degrees from Boston State College—now the University of Massachusetts, Boston.  He was a middle school science teacher for thirty years, which he thoroughly enjoyed, teaching mainly in the Woburn School System, and for a short time in the Dover-Sherborn School System.  He respected, and was in turn respected by faculty, parents, and students alike.  He was also a member of the Woburn National Guard.

Kout loved the outdoors.  He participated in many outdoor activities and sports and was an active member of several sportsmen’s clubs.  Through the years he was rarely seen without one of his “best friends”, Cocoa Puff, Lucy Mae, or Anny.

He was a faithful member of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn, serving on its Parish Council as Recording Secretary.  He was very proud of his Greek heritage.  He loved the Greek culture, food and music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Angela Hastings and her husband Jeffrey, Corrine Dubay and her husband Michael, and Maria Gioumbakis and her husband John, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, his Godson, Alex Caros, his Goddaughter, Katie Papadonis, and his sister-in-law Elaine Rautenberg.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Monday, December 22nd from 8:30 am until 10 am at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn.  Burial will take place at 3 pm on Monday, December 22nd at Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery, W. Roxbury.  As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s honor may be made to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, 01801.
