 It is with heavy heart that we annouce the passing of Docilia Barthelemy. She passed away on January 2, 2026 at the age of 95.


 Docilia was born and raised in Desdunes, Haiti. She was the daughter of the late Barthelemy Mervil and late Micheline Michel. She was the sister of Sarah (deceased), Teleuis (deceased), Mervilia (deceased), Nadi (decease), Sacre (deceased), Dieula (deceased), Telle(deceased), Mme Moise (deceased), Onondieu (deceased), Nonla (deceased), Simon, Sala, and Tala (Mme Leclere).


 She was part of a huge family and had the great joy of becoming a mother herself. She had 3 children with her longtime companion, Saint Pierre Philippe Odige (Saint Pierre Philippe) (deceased). Her first born, Pretencile Philippe, is mother to: Vilande Favilus, Presline Francois, Pierre-Luxon Francois, and Sheldens Francois. Her second, Micheline Philippe (GouGoun) (deceased), married Fameus Elipha (Reno)(deceased) and was mother to: Neptune Mathurin and Pierre-Rhode Mathurin. Her youngest, Fignole Philippe, married Yolande Valme and are parents of: Fignole Hedjens Philippe, Evans-Daniel Philippe and Rolande Philippe.


 Besides being a mother of 3 and grandmother of 9, Docilia was a great-grandmother to 14. Her spirit will live in the heart of these 13 great-grandchildren: Nehemie Maturin, Dorgeline Mathurin, Bebyannkah Mathurin, Sophonie Mathurin, Joseph Szent Krsma Lyell Mathurin, Michlyrn Raia Maelle Mathurin, Leintz Mathurin, Salandsha Favilus (Sasha), Ethan Pointdujour, Zion Francois, Zaira Francois, Zoe Francois, Mila Philippe.


 She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was very greatful to her niece Marie Jules for the many years she helped provide care for her while she was living in Malden before moving back to Somerville.


 A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Docilia was very religious and drew strength and comfort from her spirituality throughout her life. She had a gentle but strong spirit. She found happiness in simple pleasures, singing songs she loved and spening time flipping through magazines, and in her sernior years, her daily trips to her day program at The Community Family.


  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Saturday January 17, 2026 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Evangelical Haitian Church 400 High Street, Medford. A funeral service will begin at the church at 10:15am. Services will conclude with a burial taking place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. A repass lunch will follow back at the church function hall.
