Patricia Ann McDade Obituary
Patricia Ann McDade, a woman of faith with a strong devotion to her family, passed peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was 84 years old.
Pat was born in Somerville and was one of ten children born to William E. and Cecelia Veronica (Green) Blauvelt. She grew up in Somerville in a home filled to the brim with children and love of family. She was a graduate of Somerville High School.
Pat’s meeting her future husband, William McDade of Roxbury, was almost inevitable. Two of her sisters were dating two of Bill’s best friends, John Raffa and James Cavanaugh. In the end, the three Blauvelt sisters married Bill and his two best friends, and the couples remained close friends throughout their lives. Bill and Pat were married in 1965 and made their home in Somerville until 1976, when they purchased their forever home in Burlington.
Pat worked a variety of jobs prior to becoming a mother. She then devoted herself to raising her two sons and providing a loving, pristine home. She raised her sons with strong values and was steadfast in supporting their education, sports, activities, and life choices. Pat loved children—especially babies—and made sure her many nieces and nephews knew she was always happy to babysit, whenever and wherever needed. Many took her up on the offer, and nothing brought her greater joy.
Pat had many interests and creative pursuits. She took ceramics classes and her home was filled with her creations, from holiday decorations to household items such as cookie jars and a ceramic hockey player lamp she painted in Burlington colors. She also enjoyed a wide variety of crafts and took great pride in decorating and maintaining a beautiful home.
Pat enjoyed travelling with Bill, including the cherished three-week summer vacations on Cape Cod. Also, they spent nearly 30 years wintering in Florida during January and February. While they traveled around during the early years, they later spent most of that time in Treasure Island, Florida. They frequently traveled to California to visit family and enjoyed several extremely memorable vacations together, including trips to Hawaii, Paris, Rome, and a Holy Land pilgrimage. Pat and Bill truly cherished sharing their retirement years together.
Pat will be lovingly remembered as a woman of Catholic faith. She attended Mass and prayed the rosary daily, and made time for adoration. She not only practiced her faith, but lived it through her daily actions. She was extremely charitable, especially to organizations that supported children. Pat will be remembered for her sweet and quiet personality, her understanding nature, and the kindness and love she shared with all whose lives she touched.
Pat was the beloved wife of sixty years of William P. McDade. She was the loving and supportive mother of William McDade, Jr. & his wife Cheryl Catino of Burlington and Michael McDade & his wife Ann-Margret of Burlington. She was the caring sister of William Blauvelt of Wilmington, Nancy Wanders of Medford, Barbara Cavanaugh of Burlington, Helen Coyne of Stoneham, the late Mary Pelham, June Cutter, Jimmy Blauvelt, Margaret Raffa, and Sylvia Cavanaugh. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, January 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Saturday January 24 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn Street, Burlington at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with a burial at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
