Mary K Sherman Obituary

Mary Sherman, 95, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 25, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the only daughter of Stephen Brady and Nora Brigham. Raised by her mother, a first-generation Irish immigrant, Mary learned lessons that shaped her entire life: always give your best, love deeply, and raise a strong, caring family. Those values became the foundation of everything she did.  She grew up in Roxbury and later settled in Burlington after meeting the love of her life, Richard Sherman. Together they built a life centered on family. Mary devoted herself wholeheartedly to creating a warm, welcoming home for her husband, their ten children, and the generations that followed.

Family trips were joyful and full of memories, including day trips to Wyman’s Pond, visits to pleasure island, Whalom park, and picnics by Newfound Lake. Mary loved being surrounded by her family during the summer at the cabins in Voluntown, Connecticut. She especially enjoyed her visits to Horn Pond, taking leisurely walks and feeding the ducklings. More than anything else, Mary loved her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than having them all in one place, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and being present for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary took great pride in being a Nana. Her presence was the central part of any family event.

A constant learner, she always kept expanding her mind and stayed curious, reading the latest articles, and staying informed with current events. Mary’s sharp mind and wit were cherished by all those in her life. You could always count on her to be up for a shopping trip, oh the places she would go in her little red car. Mary enjoyed knitting and made it a tradition to welcome babies into the family with a handmade blanket of love. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Richard, her beloved son Robert, and her two brothers, Michael Brady and Robert Matthews.

She is survived by her adoring children, Christine Resteghini and her husband, John, of Billerica, Richard Sherman and his wife, Helen, of Burlington, Michael Sherman and his significant other, Debbie, of Bristol, NH, Nancy Sawyer and her husband, Jack, of Billerica, James Sherman and his late wife, Ani, of Billerica, Cathy Roark and her husband, Wayne, of Sanbornton, NH, Daniel Sherman and his significant other, Christina, of Cornish, ME, Nora Linskey and her husband, Charlie, of Chelmsford, and Marianne Cortes and her husband, Luis, of Tewksbury. 28 grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 29, at 12 Noon at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn Street, Burlington. Services will conclude with a private burial in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
