Richard P. Calvert Obituary

Richard P. Calvert, a retired Chief Financial Officer for numerous corporations, passed away after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday morning, February 15, 2026. He was 82 years old.

Richard was born in Boston and was one of five children born to Robert and Marion Calvert. He enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in Lexington. He graduated from Lexington High School, Class of 1962, where he proudly played varsity football. Those were special years, and his teammates became lifelong friends. He cherished every opportunity to reunite with them.

He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Bentley College in 1966 and later completed his Master’s Degree at Anna Maria College.

Richard had a distinguished and deeply respected career. He began as an accountant at Sancta Maria Hospital in Cambridge and steadily rose through the ranks. After more than 20 years of dedicated service, he became their Chief Financial Officer. He later served as Chief Financial Officer at the New England Deaconess Association in Concord, which provided residential and healthcare services for older adults. Even after retirement, Richard was not quite ready to hang up his tie. Knowing he could still make a difference, he spent three years working at Briarwood Continuing Care in Worcester.

There were many reasons for his success. Yes, he was detail-oriented, understood numbers inside and out, and had a remarkable ability to get things done. But more importantly, he built community wherever he worked. He knew everyone’s name—from senior leadership to the maintenance staff polishing floors, the kitchen team, nurses, doctors, and administrators. That special gift earned him the deep respect and affection of colleagues throughout his career.

Richard understood the importance of balance in life. He maintained circles of friends from every stage of his journey. He played for many years on the Town Liners Softball team—where they had a great deal of fun and, truth be told, were pretty decent players. He was an avid golfer and part of a regular foursome that played each weekend at Tewksbury Country Club, along with many other courses throughout the area. He shared Patriots season tickets with close friends, riding the highs and lows of the franchise together. There were annual “guys’ weekends” in Las Vegas and other memorable destinations. He was also a member of a Candlepin Bowling League and the Burlington Swim and Tennis Club. Not to leave his wife Marilyn out, Richard and Marilyn shared many wonderful friendships with other couples, traveling and socializing together over the years. Some of these circles overlapped, but Richard had a special talent for maintaining meaningful connections in every corner of his life.

Family was always at the center of Richard’s world. Family vacations were full of adventure—trips to Myrtle Beach and even a “Dude Ranch,” where the kids learned to ride horses and waterski. Winters and summers were often spent skiing at Loon Mountain or exploring trails, riverbanks, and pools. Sharing activities kept the family close—and truthfully, Richard was always a bit of a kid at heart himself.

He was immensely proud as his children established successful careers and marriages, and he delighted in watching the family circle grow. Becoming a grandfather brought him special joy. Whether the grandchildren called him “Grampy” or “Happies,” it didn’t matter—he answered enthusiastically to both. In retirement, he made them a central part of his daily life. His corny “Dad jokes” and signature dry wit were staples of every visit. The grandchildren considered him a magician—at least until about age six, when they began to unravel his tricks. He played baseball and horseshoes in the yard and kept a careful calendar of football games, hockey matches, gymnastics meets, ballet recitals, and theater productions, attending as many as he possibly could. It never mattered how they performed; he was simply proud of their effort, passion, and courage.

Richard lived a full and wonderful life. He built a successful career, nurtured lasting friendships, treasured his family, pursued his passions, and had a boatload of fun along the way. He will be deeply missed, but the stories, laughter, and love he shared will remain close to the hearts of all who knew him, keeping his spirit alive for years to come.

Richard was the beloved husband of 48 years of Marilyn J. (Kloza) Calvert.  He was the proud father and father-in-law of Jennifer Maldonado & her husband Thomas of Reading, Danielle Miranda & her husband Ivan of Ayer, Katrina Boschetti & her husband Brett of Burlington, and the late Gregory Calvert & his surviving wife Kathy of Wantagh, NY.  He was the proud grandfather of Solana Maldonado, Dylan Maldonado, Teodoro Miranda, Carter, Hudson, Layla, and Harleigh Boschetti.  Richard was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Calvert, Joan Siekman, Carol Palmer, and Thomas Calvert.  He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
