Lawrence K Wangerin Obituary

Lawrence Keith Wangerin, age 88 of Methuen, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 10, 2026. Born on November 16, 1937 in Rochester, NY, he was a devoted husband to Gail Beaven Wangerin of Pojac Point, RI, a loving father to Rebecca Wangerin-Wolfe of Reading, MA, and Benjamin P. Wangerin of North Reading, MA and a steadfast grandfather to Althea and Cassandra Wolfe.

After graduating from Kansas State University, Lawrence joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a naval communications officer aboard the carrier USS Lake Champlain and the USS Greenwich Bay during the early Vietnam era. Larry then embarked on a long career as an industrial engineer, working initially at Gillette while obtaining his MBA from Northeastern University, then Parker Brothers, the MWRA Boston Harbor Cleanup and Polaroid in later years. Alongside his professional life, he always prioritized Gail throughout their 62-year marriage, and their family. He was present in all ways for his children and grandchildren while continuously tending to the beloved colonial-era home in Andover he owned with Gail for 42 years.

Larry also enjoyed woodworking and volunteering extensively at the Andover Historical Society, being an avid collector of model trains and reading about history, continuing to learn, connect and marvel at the world around him. He was intelligent, kind, patient and caring throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and his dear brother William Wangerin and wife Karen, of Winchester, MA, as well as adored nephews, nieces, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter of Salem, MA, which Larry discovered while working at Parker Brothers, leading to a continuous parade of shelter animals into our lives.
