Florence (Procopio) Gulla Obituary
Florence (Procopio) Gulla, age 91, passed away peacefully at the Lincoln Hospice House on Monday, April 6, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Anthony Gulla, with whom she had shared almost 61 years of marriage, prior to his passing in 2018.
Born in Boston, MA, Florence was one of four children to the late William and Elizabeth Procopio. Florence was raised in the North End of Boston, and her childhood was filled with fond memories spent with close family and friends. She attended Julie Billiart High School, and met her adoring husband Anthony following her graduation. The two were soon married, and settled down to start their family together.
Florence was a kind, patient, and loving person to her core. As a wife, mother, and later grandmother, her gentle nature shined through in everything she did for them. From the moment her daughters entered her life, Florence’s biggest priority became family. She was what some might have referred to as a “domestic Goddess”. She would cook impeccable meals, clean, and dote upon her family, with a smile. Florence’s upbeat and positive attitude was truly infectious, and she did everything she could to share her light with everyone she met.
When her grandchildren came along, Florence’s capacity for love somehow grew. She didn’t waste a single second when it came to her grandchildren—always happy to be a built-in babysitter, confidant, and supporter. She carried on the tradition of cooking elaborate Sunday dinners for the family, and relished the time spent surrounded by her loving family. As she got older and stopped cooking on Sunday’s, her children would prepare the dinner and bring it to her, always wanting to keep the tradition of togetherness going.
In the free time she had that wasn’t already devoted to family time, Florence loved to bowl, and was in a league in Woburn for around 30 years. She also loved to stay active, attending weekly exercise classes until she was 89 years old, and even held two jobs for many years just for the love of being around people. She truly enjoyed her work throughout the 40 years she spent with the Winchester and later Woburn schools. Above all else, Florence was the epitome of what it means to be an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her dedication, kindness, and love for her family will always be remembered.
Surviving Florence are her five loving daughters, Roseann, Marlene, Elizabeth, Valerie, and Claudia; her 12 adoring grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as many other cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Florence was a dear sister to the late Rose, Domenic, and Catherine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, April 17th from 8:30 am until 10 am. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am at St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn. At the request of her immediate family, burial will take place privately. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Florence’s honor may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, or to the St. Francis House in Boston.
