Anthony R. Patti—known as Tony, Richard, Dick, and Dad—of Burlington, MA and Sanbornville, NH, returned to God on Tuesday after a long illness. He was a loving father, devoted husband, caring friend, and kind soul.

Anthony was born in Boston, the only son of Santo and Grace Patti, in a home filled with Italian traditions and values. He grew up in Boston and graduated from Dorchester High School. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. At the age of 23, he was called from the Army Reserves to serve his country. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant, serving in the Army from February 1958 to February 1960.

Anthony worked for over forty years as an engineer for United Engineers & Constructors, which later became Raytheon. He contributed to projects throughout the United States and around the world, including the design and construction of the lunar lander for the Apollo space program, as well as a wide variety of power plants worldwide. His work took him to Brazil, Taiwan, the Pacific Islands, Finland, and the Arctic Circle.

If Anthony was going to do something, he was going to do it well. He was an expert marksman and a longtime member of the Minuteman Sportsman’s Club. He was an accomplished skier, enjoying mountains from Bretton Woods to Telluride to Chamonix, and was a member of the Innitou Ski Club in North Conway. He took his last ski run at the age of 88. It was through skiing that he met his wife, Peg. They were both members of Innitou and passionate skiers, a passion they shared with their three sons.

He was also an avid hiker of Mount Chocorua and other peaks in New England. In midlife, he taught himself to sail, winning many races in his yellow Laser #43690 on Lovell Lake in New Hampshire. He was also a tennis player and enjoyed building airplane models, boating, and waterskiing. He loved the outdoors, challenging himself, being competitive, and living life to the fullest.

Anthony also enjoyed giving back to his community by volunteering at Burlington’s People Helping People Food Pantry. The “Lakehouse” on Lovell Lake in Sanbornville was his happy place, where he cherished time with family and friends.

Anthony had a deep devotion to his family. He met his wife on the slopes of North Conway; they were married for 62 years and made their home in Burlington for 62 years. He loved his wife, Peggy, with great devotion. He is survived by his three sons: Reverend Steven Patti, OFM, of Silver Spring, MD; David Patti of Wakefield; and James Patti of East Greenwich, RI. He was a strong role model, encouraging them to follow their passions and supporting each of them in countless ways.

He was a loving and caring “Pop Pop” to his four granddaughters, Sophia, Grace, Anna, and Lauren. He was the brother-in-law of Donna Westberg of Westford and the late Richard Westberg.  He was the uncle of Sharon Westberg, Mark Westberg, and the late Christine Westberg. He had many lifelong friends, as he was a kind and gentle man whose presence was always a joy. His quiet example will echo for generations, and he will be deeply missed.
