Obituary of John Joseph Tobin
John Joseph Tobin, an employee of the Belmont Police Traffic Department and retired administrator passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2015. He was 75 years old.
John was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Christopher and Mary Tobin. He grew up in Cambridge and was a 1958 graduate of Rindge Technical High School. He served in the Army Reserves for a number of years following high school. John worked 30 years in the administration office of the Middlesex County Hospital in Waltham. After his retirement, unable to sit still , he went to work part time for the Belmont Police Traffic Department. He was currently in his fourteenth year with the department. John was a special man, with a great sense of confidence and humor. He was the lead singer of the “Music Makers” for over 20 years. The band played at weddings, holiday parties, and all sorts of events and celebrations. He loved the attention and always got the party going and kept the dance floor hopping. He had a large repertoire of music from oldies, classics, to modern. He graced his daughters at their weddings as he sang for them and the guests on their special day. John had a great sense of humor and was bit of a showman even off the stage. He wasn’t afraid to poke fun of himself or wear off the wall outfits or make outlandish comments that always had his family and friends in stiches laughing.
John was also a very handy and resolute individual. He was extremely talented with his hands. He bought a piece of land in South Berwick, Maine and built his own summer house from the ground up. The only help he needed was drilling his well. But John did it his own creative way. He would build sections of the home in his basement in Burlington during the week then on weekends and vacations he would bring the sections to Maine where he assembled them. After a while his home was complete and the wonderful summer destination for his family. He was an avid fresh water and salt water fisherman. He also was an ardent flower and vegetable gardener. He enjoyed sharing his childhood memories and helping his children create their own as well. He was devoted to his wife Pat whom he has been married to for 53 years. He knew he was a lucky man to have such a exceptional woman who allowed him to be the special man he was. He was devoted to her and was there for her as Multiple Sclerosis hindered her ability to get around. They were a team and that’s just what you do. You enjoy the triumphs and work thru life’s challenges together.
John was the beloved husband of Patricia Anne (Sullivan) Tobin. He was the loving father of Tracy Curran & her husband Joseph and Karen White & her husband Steven all of Billerica. He was the brother of the late Mary Burke. John was the proud grandfather of Amanda & Michael Curran and Shane & Ryan White all of Billerica.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 4-7 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
