Obituary of Lianne M. Abramo

Lianne Marie (Powers) Abramo passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.  She was 84 years old.  Lianne was born in Arlington.  She was one of four children born to Joseph and Agnes Powers.  She grew up in Melrose and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.  After high school she went to work at Lincoln Labs.  It was there that she met her future husband Nunzio “Dee” Abramo.  Dee was a charming young man who had a bit of swagger to him.  He sang in a band on weekends and was full of spontaneity.  Both switched jobs to Mitre Corporation in 1960 and she remained with the company for 15 years.  She spent 20 years working as an administrative assistant at the Burlington Board of Health before retiring for good.

Lianne and Dee married in 1960 and settled in Burlington in 1963.  They had four children.  Lianne made raising a family, maintaining a home, and working seem effortless.  Dee was the front man in the couple.  He loved being the center of attention and working a room.  Lianne was a bit more subdued, preferred keeping things moving, being the perfect hostess, and just appreciating seeing family and friends enjoying themselves.  That is not to say that she didn’t have her moments of glory.  She was well known for her “Sniper” one liners that could bring everyone to tears laughing.  She was very family oriented.  She loved when everyone was together, enjoying the holidays, cookouts around the pool, large family dinners, gingerbread house making events, or playing games with her children and grandchildren around the dining room table.  She had a competitive side to her enjoying crossword puzzles playing scrabble, Bocce, Croquet, a host of card games.  Family vacations usually were focused on sun, beaches, and water.  There were trips to the shores of Cape Cod, Maine, and on the banks lor Newfound Lake, and Lake Winnisquam.  Other than their honeymoon, her first trip out of the United States was a gift from her children for their 25th Wedding anniversary to Barbados.  Then she got the travel bug from there frequenting Aruba numerous times and even went on an African safari.  Lianne and Dee bought their home in Cape Cod in 2001.  In 2010 they decided to live there full time.  They enjoyed golfing together.  Much to Dee’s chagrin, it was Lianne who had the one and only “Hole -in-One” of the pair.

Lianne lived a wonderful life.  She was the rock for her family, a source of strength for everyone, and the glue that kept everyone together.  The past years have been challenging for Lianne dealing with the debilitating effects of alzheimers.  One glimmer was that she always knew her children and grandchildren.  She is finally at peace and once again reunited with her beloved Dee.  She will be lovingly remembered, and her spirit will live in the hearts of all her family.

Lianne was the beloved wife of 51 years of Dee Abramo.  She was the loving mother of Paul Abramo & his wife Lorraine of Moultonborough, NH formerly of Billerica, Stephen Abramo and his wife Sandra “Sam” of Dracut, Michele Abramo of Amesbury, and Philip Abramo & his wife Michele of Burlington.  She was the proud “Nana” to Anthony Abramo & his wife Jenna, Kristin Stelter & her husband David, Hannah, Lily, Alyssa, Joey, and Mia Abramo.  She was the great grandmother of Kaylie Abramo, Amelia Stelter, and newborn Ellie Abramo who entered this world only hours before Lianne’s passing.  Lianne was the sister of Jacqueline Kelly & her husband James of Hyannis Port, Michael Powers of South Boston, and the late Joseph Powers & his surviving wife Margaret Powers of Riva, MD.  She was the sister-in-law of Sal & Cathy Abramo of Burlington, and Joyce Sinagra of FL.  She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Monday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to Noon. A funeral service at the funeral home will begin at noon. Lianne will be laid to rest beside her husband Dee at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne in a private ceremony.   Memorials in Lianne’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
