Obituary of Robert Harney
Robert E. Harney, Jr. passed away after a short battle with cancer at the Lowell General Hospital, on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was 63 years old.
Robert was born in Boston and grew up in New Market, NH. His family moved to Burlington when he was a teenager and he went onto to graduate from Burlington High School in 1969. He worked at Polaroid for 27 years in the manufacturing division at Reservoir Place. He worked part time selling real estate for several Burlington real estate firms. He also worked part time as a bartender at the American Legion in Burlington. Robert had a number of different sides of him. He was a sports enthusiast, playing adult baseball and following all the Boston Professional sports teams. He was the musician, who played in a band when he was younger, playing his guitar for family and friends, and enjoyed following his favorite musicians. He was an outdoorsman who loved being on the water fishing or canoeing. Lake Winnipesaukee was one of his favorite destinations. He was the supportive father who traveled all over the state and country supporting and encouraging his son as he played Soccer and lacrosse. And then there was his softer side, where he helped his girlfriend, Dee Dee, care for Foster children, who needed a warm and loving home. He had wide spectrum to his persona, from the competitive, entertainer, and caregiver that made him able to connect with friends and family in so many different levels.
Robert was the beloved son of Pauline (Kelley) Harney of Burlington and the late Robert Harney. He was the father of Jonathan J. Harney of Rochester, NH. He was the brother of Jean Squires of Burlington & her late husband John “Jack”. He was the loving companion of Denise “Dee Dee” Jordan of Chelmsford & her son Joshua Jordan of Milford, NH. He was the uncle of Shawn Squires of Burlington and Stacy Schmidt & her husband Jay of Chelmsford. . He was also survived by many friends.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Saturday, March 19 at 9 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The interment will be private.
