Obituary of Maurice Hillis
Maurice F. Hillis, a resident of Burlington for over 49 years, passed away at the Harborside Healthcare Center in Wakefield on Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 2007. He was 75 years old.
Maurice was born, raised and educated in Somerville. He was the son of the late Matthew and Katherine (Dunn) Hillis. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He held the rank of Airman Second Class and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Maurice worked for 38 years as a machinist at T.R. W in Newton. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Burlington. He enjoyed motorcycles and was a member of the Compass Riders Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and working around his yard. He always strived to have the perfect ell manicured lawn. He also enjoyed camping on the Saco River and through out New Hampshire.
Maurice was married to his wife Jean (Crogan) Hillis for 49 years. He is survived by 4 sons, John of Medford, Matthew & his wife Eileen of Auburn, Maurice F. Jr. & his wife Denise of Medford, and Scott & his wife Linda of Stoneham. He is the brother of Robert of Billerica and the late Frank and Matthew. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, March 26 at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday from 3–7 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington Memorials in Maurice’s name may be made to the Beacon Hospice of Beverly Lighthouse Foundation, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 129GC, Beverly, MA 01915.
