Obituary of Nancy Morison-Playle
Nancy M. Morison-Playle, 84 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Perham. Born and raised in Arlington, MA, Nancy spent her summers in Orford, NH at the family summer home. She graduated from Arlington High in 1949 and went on to Westbrook Junior College in Portland, ME where she graduated in 1951. She also attended the University of New Hampshire. Nancy was a Ski Bum in Stowe VT while in college. After college, Nancy worked as a Flight attendant for Northwest Orient Airlines and was based in Minneapolis, MN. When she returned to Massachusetts, she worked as a Buyer for the Grover Cronin department store in Waltham.
Nancy married her first husband, Richard Morison in 1956 and settled in Burlington to start a family. She remained home with her children until her youngest was in third grade and then she returned to the work force. When the Burlington Mall opened, Nancy went to work at Jordan Marsh as a sales associate. She lived a mile from the mall so she would often walk to work. She later worked as a substitute teacher and then in the library at Fox Hill Elementary School in Burlington. She worked mother’s hours so she could be home when her children came home from school. She then went to work as a librarian assistant at the Robbins Library in Arlington. She worked there for over 20 years before she retired. Nancy also had her real estate license.
After her husband Richard passed away in 1982, Nancy took up square dancing. She made many friends and met her second husband, Joseph Playle. In retirement, she and Joe had the opportunity to travel. Some of her favorite memories were her trips to the: Grand Canyon, Hawaii, and Denali National Park in Alaska. She also traveled extensively through Europe, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. In her later years, she would relive her adventures through the hundreds of pictures she took while traveling. Nancy’s other interests included swimming, gardening, puzzles, and reading. She was a longtime member of The United Church of Christ Congregational in Burlington. She was active in the church serving as a Deacon for a number of years and as an usher.
Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put her family first.
Nancy was the loving wife of the late Richard Morison and Joseph Playle. She was the loving mother of Diane Spence of Raymond, NH, Janet Tornell & her husband Bruce of Littleton, and David Morison & his wife Michelle of Burlington. She was the stepmother of Barbara Soehngen of CO, Kathy Church of Florence, MA, Karen Roy of FL, and Richard Playle of Pembroke, NH. She was predeceased by her brothers; Russell and Robert Perham. She was the loving and kind grandmother of Richard & Jesse Spence, Mario Marchesi, Ruth, David, & Luke Tornell, Jack & Caroline Morison, Elizabeth & Eric Soehngen, Tyler Church, and Travis & Athen Roy. She was also the great grandmother of Hayden & Peyton Spence. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational on Thursday, March 24 at 10 a.m. The burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nancy’s name may be made to United Church of Christ Congregational, 6 Lexington St., Burlington, MA 01803.
