Susan Gaipo

Obituary of Susan Gaipo

Susan Joan Gaipo, a mother and foster mother, passed away after a long battle with lung disease. She was 75 years old. Susan was born in Watertown, the daughter of the late Joseph and Violet Forest. She grew up in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School. She moved to Burlington in 1969 and raised her two children in the community. She also opened her home to over 80 foster children during those years. Some only stayed for days and others stayed for years. She cared for each one giving them the comfort, care, and security that they needed and desired during their adolescent years. It was a challenging but extremely rewarding task. She gave children who may have been neglected or from troubled homes a family environment that offered supervision, discipline, guidance, nurturing, compassion and love. Her influence helped many of these children keep on the right path and become responsible adults. Susan’s commitment to her family and foster children left little time to herself. When she had the opportunity she enjoyed going to Bingo and playing cards with her friends. For the past 15 years, she had suffered from the effects of lung disease, which limited her ability to leave her home. In 2006, she moved to Tyngsborough to live with her son and daughter. It was a great comfort to Susan, as a devoted parent, to know that just as she provided love and a home to her children and foster children when they were young, that they would, in turn, be there for her during her illness providing her with love, a home and a supportive environment, allowing for her to remain out of an institutional care facility. Susan was the loving and devoted mother of William Gaipo, II of Tyngsborough & his fiancée Lauren Dooley and Tracey Gaipo of Tyngsborough. She was the proud grandmother of William Gaipo, III. She was the loving daughter of the late Violet McGann and Joseph Forest. She was the sister of Carolyn Driscoll of Brighton, Judith Andrews of Concord, Charles Forest of Everett, and James Forest of Lawrence, the late Florence Bruner, Katherine McNamara, Josephine Hill and John Forest. Susan was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are asked to celebrate the life of Susan at Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home at 43 Winn St., Burlington MA 01803 (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March, 25, 2016. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Chestnut Hill Cemetery at a time and date to be announced.
