Obituary of Pukhraj Bahadur Mathur

Pukhraj Bahadur Mathur “Raj”, retired Controller for Dellaria Salons, passed away at the age of 75 after a lengthy illness on Monday morning, June 6, 2016. Raj was born in New Delhi, India, the son of Sardar Bahadur Mathur and Koko Rani. He grew up in New Delhi, India and earned his Bachelor of Art Commerce Degree and earned his MBA Degree from the Delhi School of Management. At the age of 26, he immigrated with his wife, Archana Mathur, to the Unites States, settling initially in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970 and then moving to Burlington, Massachusetts to raise his family. Raj had an incredible work ethic, working in a number of private firms before settling and retiring as Controller at the Corporate headquarters of Dellaria Salons, a chain of boutique salons in the Boston area. He worked at the Corporate headquarters of Dellaria Salons for approximately 15 years and retired from there at the age of 73. Raj was an extremely loving man, who always placed his family’s needs first. He had solid values and wanted the best for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his father very much and took his family to India many times so that they could meet with their family from both sides. Raj wanted to give his daughters the opportunity to get first-rate educations and encouraged and nurtured them to develop strong work and family ethics and achieve the best from both Western and Eastern cultures. He was a wonderful role model for his family. He lived the American Dream coming from India with hardly anything and being able to excel and prosper in the United States through hard work and perseverance with the help of his immediate relatives living in Sharon, MA for which he will always be grateful. He had simple values, humility, and had a huge heart. Raj would have done anything for his family and friends. His biggest pleasure was day trips to Foxwood Resorts with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. Raj was the beloved husband of Archana Mathur of 48 years. He was the loving father of Veenita Rao of Burlington and Kavita Whitney of Epsom, NH and father-in-law of Brad Whitney of Epsom, NH and Arvind Rao of Irving, TX. He was the proud grandfather of Avinash Rao, Nicholas and Angelica Whitney. He was the brother of Shivraj Bahadur Mathur and Uma Mathur of India and the late Sukhraj Bahadur Mathur, and Vidhya Mathur. A public visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Friday, June 10 from 6-7:15pm. Concluding with a Service of Sharing and Reflection at 7:15pm. Private services will be held this weekend for family and close friends.
