Obituary of Gunter Schmidt
Gunter “Toni” Schmidt, a retired Products Design Engineer, passed away on Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2016 at the Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. He was 79 years old.
Toni was born in in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of the late Erwin Schmidt and Johanna (Buch-Schmidt) Moss. His family lived in Frankfurt, Germany until he was 15 years old. They immigrated to the United States and settled in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. He graduated from Bay Shore High School and then enlisted to serve his new country in the U.S. Air Force. He served 4 years as an Airman Second Class during the Korean War. After his military service, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeastern University. He met his future wife, Barbara Mangano through friends in Cambridge and they were married in 1963 and settled in Burlington, Massachusetts in 1964 to raise their family. He worked for 40 years at Adcole Corporation in Marlborough as a Products Design Engineer. He worked on the first Global Position Systems used by NASA in their satellite and space crafts.
Toni was the loving husband of 53 years of Barbara (Mangano)Schmidt. He was the loving father of Mark & his wife Joanne of Wasilla, Alaska and Stacy Schmidt of Burlington, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren Schmidt of Miami, Missouri & her companion, Brent Land and great grandfather of Addalynne Land. He was predeceased by his sister; Hildegard Schmidt. At Toni’s request, funeral services were private.
