Obituary of Robert E. Shaw
Robert E. “Bob” Shaw, a retired member of Teamsters Local 25, passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Saturday morning, June 18, 2016. The beloved husband of 58 years of Evelyn (Glavin) he was 77 years old.
Bob was born, raised and educated in Toledo, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving his country in the United States Navy. It was while serving in the Navy that Bob met Evelyn while his ship was in dry dock in Boston. They married in 1957.
Bob and Evelyn lived in Everett before moving to Woburn where they would raise their three daughters. He had a career in the trucking industry that spanned over 40 years working for various companies. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 25. Bob retired from ABF in Burlington. Bob was not one to sit idle. During his retirement years he worked 3 – 4 days a week at the Woburn Irish American where he was a member as well. Bob also volunteered at the Winchester Hospital for many - many years. He loved to bowl and was a member of various leagues throughout the years at the Woburn Bowladrome. Bob made many lifelong friendships at the bowladrome including the Gangi family. Bob was also a member of the Elks and the Massachusetts Rifle Association in Woburn. He could also be seen taking his two daily walks at Horn Pond in Woburn.
Bob loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Evelyn and they would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in December. They enjoyed traveling together visiting such destinations as Alaska, Florida, Aruba, Bermuda and his favorite destination being Savannah, Georgia. They also made frequent trips to visit their youngest daughter in Toledo, Ohio. Bob was a wonderful father always doting on his three daughters, providing a wonderful home. He was an avid Boston sports fan most especially the Celtics and the Patriots. During the Patriots Games, he would be known to have conversations with his daughter Lynn in Ohio throughout the game! Bob loved animals and there was always a pet in the Shaw family when the girls were growing up. Bob and Evelyn recently got a new dog “Buddy”. Buddy took to Bob immediately never leaving his side during Bob’s illness.
Bob will be remembered as a very nice man as well as a quiet man. He was a loving husband, father and best friend to the four special women in his life along with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was the beloved husband of 58 years of Evelyn (Glavin). He was the loving father of Donna Manning & her late husband Timothy of Woburn, Deb Anderson & her husband Richard of Billerica and Lynn Cutcher & her husband Michael of Toledo, OH. Brother of Reda Steibler of OH, Richard Shaw of IN & Larry Shaw of OH. Proud grandfather of Colleen Manning & her husband Juan Figueroa of East Boston, Kelly Manning of Woburn, Richie Anderson of Waltham, and Robert & Ashley Cutcher of Toledo, OH. Great-grandfather of Rachael Figueroa and the late Timothy Juan Manning-Figueroa.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at Woodbrook Cemetery, Salem St., Woburn on Thursday, June 23rd at 11 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Council of Social Concern, 2 Merrimack St., Woburn, MA 01801
