Obituary of Lonja Nachmann

Lonja Nachmann, retired Physical Facilities Manager, of former United Business Services, Co., Boston, MA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016. He was 87 years old. Lonja was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. As a young man, he learned to speak English as he longed to become an American citizen. In 1959, seeking a better life for his wife and little girl, he packed up his family and immigrated to the United States. After a brief stay in Toledo, OH, they lived in Somerville, MA for almost 5 years before moving to Burlington in October 1964. He found great fellowship and friendship as a Master Mason and belonged to numerous organizations and branches of Freemasonry, including the Shriners, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He became a Master Mason of Mount Hermon Lodge on February 4, 1965. At his death, he belonged to Golden Rule Lodge, Bektash Shrine, Valley of New Hampshire Scottish Rite, Order of Eastern Star- Aletheon and Mount Carmel Chapters, Major General Henry Knox Lodge, and Royal Order of Jesters New Hampshire Court No. 137. He was involved in so many ways from parades, ceremonials, charity events, and socials. He had also served as the Captain of the Degree Staff at Aleppo Shrine. Lonja loved his family and his home, where he lived for 52 years. He knew how to build, fix or improve everything and anything and was never without a project at home, work or at play. He enjoyed working around the yard, his flower gardens and bird feeders, and his carpentry projects. He was never without a song in his heart or on his lips. He was an avid reader of history and historical novels. He enjoyed his food and had a large collection of cookbooks, but always left the cooking to his wife and daughter. He had a very strong will and was determined to remain in his home, which he achieved with the help of his daughter. He loved his pets and animals and supported animal rescue charities. He will be remembered for his wit, love of family, commitment to the community, and his English- spoken with his German accent. Lonja was the beloved husband of the late Lotti H. K. (Winter). He was the proud and loving father of Susann Doris Nachmann of Burlington. He was the son of the late Ernst Nachmann and Maria Magdalena (Stenner) Wallkamm. He was the brother of Ilse Irmgard Fultz of AZ, Roswitha Brancatto of OH, and Lydia Maria Zimmermann of Germany. He was the cousin of Ingeborg Winstead of Bangor, ME and her children, Harold and Deborah Winstead. A memorial service will be held at the Edward V.
