Obituary of Franklin Reddig

Franklin D. “Frank” Reddig, a resident of Burlington for the past 57 years passed away after a long illness on Sunday, July 17, 2016. He was 82 years old. Frank was born in Boston, the son of the late John and Catherine Reddig. He grew up and was educated in Cambridge. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served for 3 years during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked his career as an optical technician. He started with A.D. Jones Optics, and then went to work for Beam Precision Optics. He spent 30 years working for Beam working with and tooling high tech lenses that were used in a wide variety of uses including precision optics used in manufacturing, research, and defense. Frank enjoyed the time spent at home and with his family. He enjoyed working around his home, on his cars, and in his yard. He had a keen ability to understand movement, mechanics, and machinery. He wasn’t bashful about taking on any project. He was an avid sports fan with the Bruins and Red Sox being his favorite teams. He was longtime member of a number of bowling leagues over the years. He enjoyed visiting the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his family. He loved going on cruises, especially those which traveled to warm weather destinations. He went on as many as 20 cruises over his lifetime and just enjoyed the relaxing no worries mantra one experiences with cruising. Frank was the loving husband of Ruth (Ryan) Reddig for 58 years. Their two friends set them up on a date and the rest was history. He was the proud father of his three sons and their wives; Thomas Carlson-Reddig & his wife Kelly of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey Reddig & his wife Tirzah of Silver Spring, MD and Daniel Reddig & his wife Teresa of Quincy. He was the brother of John Reddig of Tewksbury, Bette Flannery of South Hadley and the late Mary Powers. He was the very proud grandfather of of Nathan, Zoe, Victoria, Catherine, Michael & Joseph. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, July 21 from 5-7 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Frank’s name may be made to your favorite charity.
