David P. Murphy, a retired sales representative, passed away after a long illness, on Friday morning, February 24, 2012. He was 73 years old. David was born in Boston the son of the late Maurice and Helen Murphy. He grew up in Allston and was a graduate of Brighton High School. He spent his career as a sales representative for several construction supply companies. He enjoyed his work and the many customers he serviced over his long career. David and his wife, Rita, moved to Burlington 44 years ago to raise their four children. David’s family was the most important part of his life. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Rita for 53 years. He was a proud and supportive father to his 4 children and 10 Grandchildren. His love for his family was endless. He was a proud Boston Sports fan. He was an avid reader. He was a member of Burlington’s Disability Access Committee for 6 years. He found it rewarding to work with the community on making Burlington more accessible for those with disabilities, like himself. He especially enjoyed working the committees outreach programs with the elementary students in the community. David was the beloved husband of Rita E. (Farrell). Loving father of Brian of Burlington, Nancy Cotreau & her husband Stanley of Billerica, Maureen Cooper & her husband Paul of Chelmsford, Michael & his wife Sharon (Patenaude) of Lowell. Brother of Maurice “Bud” and Joseph both of Newton, the late Lorraine “Sis” Harding, Helen Sprissler, Catherine “Kay” and Edward Murphy. “Beeps” to Julie & Timothy Cooper, Joseph, Kevin & Scott Cotreau, Donald, Jennifer, Christopher, Steven and David Murphy. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
