Obituary of Janet I. Pierce

Janet I. (Proulx) Pierce, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Hospital & Medical Center, unexpectedly on Friday, September 30, 2016. The beloved wife of Warren D. Pierce, Jr. she was 73 years old. Janet was born in Cambridge. She was raised and educated in Arlington. Janet was one of five children born to the late Phillip and Irene Proulx. She was a graduate of Arlington High School. It was while in High School that she would meet her future husband Warren who was an upperclassman. They dated for five years marrying on October 16, 1966. After high school she went on to become a hairdresser. Janet worked at Fabyan’s hair salon in Belmont. Janet and Warren settled in Burlington where they would raise their children, make many friendships and become a part of the community. Janet always placed her family first. When she became a mother she chose to remain home with her children and support them in all their sports, activities, education and all the important moments and decisions in their lives. She even helped to coach her daughter’s town softball team. When her children where young the family belonged to what was then known as the Burlington Country Club where they enjoyed spending time as a family and with friends. Janet had a close and loving relationship with her sister Marie and Marie’s children Christine, Lenny and Michelle. Simply said they were the best of friends in addition to being sisters. They enjoyed nothing better than a day of shopping followed by lunch together. Janet had a warm, welcoming and outgoing personality. She was the type of person that people gravitated towards. You felt appreciated and welcomed when in her company. She had numerous circles of friends and neighbors in Burlington and at their second home in Naples, Florida as well as longtime childhood friends from Arlington. Janet had a wonderful relationship with Warren for 55 years. She was a loving and supportive wife. She was blessed to see the birth of eight grandchildren were her pride and joy. Nothing brought Janet more happiness than attending one of their events and hearing about the accomplishments in their lives. Janet’s family had planned to surprise her in the coming week with a celebration of her and Warren’s 50 years of marriage. Janet was the beloved wife of 50 years of Warren D. Pierce, Jr. Loving mother of Jeanette Pierce-MacNeil & her companion Brian Roy of Billerica, Jennifer Tapley & her husband Gary of St. Augustine, FL, Warren D. Pierce, III of Burlington, William Pierce & his wife Mary of Melrose and John Pierce of Naples, FL. Dear sister & best friend of Marie Cullen & her late husband Leonard of Woburn and the late Arthur Proulx & his late wife Margaret, the late Francis Proulx & his late wife Roselyn and the late Donald Proulx & his wife Bonnie of NH. Proud grandmother of Benjamin, Matthew, Will, Catherine, Margaret, Jack, Harrison & Keira. Sister-in-law of Janice Burke & her late husband Daniel of Natick. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews & friends. Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
