Obituary of Elizabeth J. Ferro
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Ferro, a mother, secretary, and proud American passed away after a long illness on Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016. Her passing came days away from the first anniversary of her husband’s passing and a day short of her 74th birthday.
Betty was born in Waltham, the daughter of the late Amos Pratt and Dorothy Barker and step daughter to Earl Barker. She grew up and was educated in Waltham. She was a graduate of Waltham High School. She had a wide variety of jobs over the years including secretary at Reid Associates, Globe Ticket, and Partners For Life Dog Training. Her husband Robert, along with being a career fire fighter for the Burlington Fire Departmentn owned and operated Smoke Alarm Co., Ferro Painting, and Better Bottle Redemption. Betty was the one behind all the companies, managing the finances, taking orders, and acting as office manager.
Betty had so many passions and interests over the years. She was extremely patriotic and was an active long term member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Millican-Mckenzie Post 273 of the American Legion in Burlington. She supported many Veteran’s charities including the Fisher House in Boston. She was proud to be an American and profoundly appreciated those who served our country in the military. She was a bit of the family historian documenting the families’ genealogy and scrapbooking photographs so the next generations would know and appreciate their forefathers. Saturday and Sundays were filled with yard sale excursions, day outings, family dinners, and watching her Tom Brady and the Patriots. Every year she was confident that the Patriots would win the Super Bowl and but even more so this year. She loved visiting Cape Cod and family camping trips. The fall was her favorite time of the year and loved seeing the foliage bursting with color. She enjoyed building and collecting doll houses. She loved watching movies, especially if Bradley Cooper was the star. Betty’s life revolved around her family and her home. In her home, she was the matriarch and the queen. She ran the house and everyone answered to her. She was often described as “Sassy” and “Spunky”. There wasn’t much around her home that she did not know about. When someone in the family did something to displease Betty, all she would have to do give that person “The Look” and they automatically understood her displeasure and the impending consequences. She adored her grand kids and loved that the great grandchildren called her “GG”. She had interesting traditions like making lists for everything, constant family pictures, and a “Book of Thanks” which came out each Thanksgiving that family members shared things they were thankful for over the past year. She embraced life and her home was always filled with laughter and commotion. She has created lasting remembrances that will keep her memory forever etched in the hearts of all her family.
Betty was the loving wife of 56 years of the late Robert J. Ferro. She was the loving mother of Robert Ferro & his wife Lynn of Billerica, Scott Ferro of Port Richey, FL, Brenda Ferro of Burlington, David Ferro & his wife Deborah of Port Richey, FL, and Lisa Fucile & her husband Jim of Billerica. Betty was the sister and best friend of Nancy Green of Shelburne, VT. She was the proud grandmother of Tanya & Tyler Ferro of Billerica, Kim DePrizio of Miami, FL, Jessica DePrizio of N. Reading, Scott Monteforte of Billerica, Christopher Ferro of Jaffrey, NH, Kianna & Austin Ferro of Holiday, FL, Samantha Covert of Center Conway, NH, and Daumanic Fucile of Seabrook, NH and great grandmother “GG” of Savanna Covert, Jaykob Hagestrom, Shawn and Justice Ferro.
