Obituary of Clara Day
Clara Esther (Martini) Day, passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. The beloved wife of the late Eugene L. Day, she was 95 years old.
Clara was born, raised and educated in Woburn. She was one of five children born to the late Pasquale and Annie Martini. Clara lived on her grandfather’s farm as a child helping with the farming duties. Her family eventually moved from the farm to their own home in Woburn. Throughout her life Clara loved to dance and sing. As a young child she would occasionally perform with her dad doing her “Adagio Act” which was doing tumbling and aerobics routines to music.
Clara and her husband Eugene married in 1941 They lived in a number of states and towns throughout the years with their primary residences being Woburn and Burlington. Clara was a woman of deep catholic faith. She was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s and in her earlier years she was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Her faith was a constant throughout her life.
Clara worked for Dr. Portnay and Dr. Dohan at the Burlington Medical Center for over 25 years as a Secretary in the Billing Office. It was a job she loved and where she made many friendships. Clara had a very special relationship with her two sisters Eleanor and Pat. They were best friends and inseparable! In recent years Clara had lived both at the Gables in Woburn as well as Sunrise in Burlington where she enjoyed participating in their activities and meeting new friends.
Clara was the beloved wife of the late Eugene L. Day. She was the loving mother of Mary Ann Day of Fairbanks, AK, Janine Thompson & her husband Darwin of Fairbanks, AK, Eugene “Gene” Day & his wife Pat of Ventura, CA and Christopher Day & his wife Jeanne of Merrimack, NH. Sister of Eleanor Ross of Danvers, Patricia McCuish & her late husband Donald of Woburn, and the late Ralph and John Martini. Sister-in-law of Mary Martini of IL. Clara is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, BURLINGTON. In lieu of flowers memorials in Clara’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472
