Obituary of Lorraine F. Long

Lorraine F. Long, joined her guardian angels on November 2, 2016 at the age of 83. She spent her last days, doing what she loved, working around her yard, trimming her bushes, and enjoying the fresh salt air. Lorraine was born in Medford, one of six children, born to Anthony and Bridget Curto. She grew up in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Edward Long, in 1950. They lived and raised their family in Watertown. In 1964, they purchased their first home in Burlington. Between seven very active children and her outgoing personality, Lorraine’s circle of friends in Burlington grew. She became very active in the Burlington Jaycees and was involved with the Jaycees in the Burlington Common improvements. She coached the first Pop Warner cheerleading team and personally handmade all the girls uniforms. Lorraine and Ed co-founded Prime Steel Erecting, a construction company which continues today through her sons and grandchildren. They moved to Wareham in 1977 to be closer to the ocean and their boat, “Rani”. Lorraine felt blessed to have Russ and Donna as her dear friends and supportive neighbors. Lorraine’s grandchildren often called her the “Matriarch of the Long Family”. They said that, not because she was the ruler of the Longs, but rather the “Glue” that kept all the family united. Her home in Burlington, and then in Wareham, was always the gathering spot for family and friends for the holidays, cook-outs, pool parties, and any other reason to gather as a family. She was the cornerstone of strength and love upon which her family was built. With every birth and every marriage, her family grew upon that cornerstone. Lorraine has helped shape their ambitions, values, and hopes. Her spirit was instilled in all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She has touched all their hearts. Her memory and influence will continue for generations to come as they come across life’s challenges and demands. Lorraine’s descendants will never lose focus that family comes first and with your family’s support and strength you will always be happy. Her legacy is her family. Mom, you have taken a piece of all our hearts with you. Lorraine was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Long. She was the loving mother of Edward of Woburn, Linda Robillard & her late husband Robert of Townsend, Robert & his wife Paula of Littleton, Richard & his wife Kathy of Bridgewater, John of Wareham and the late Steven M.
