Obituary of Rose Searles
Rose (Goffredo) Searles, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away at the Care One Nursing Facility in Wilmington, on Friday night, November 11, 2016. She was 88 years old.
Rose was born in Cambridge, the daughter of Maurice Goffredo an Italian immigrant and Antoinette Goffredo, who was a first generation Italian American. She grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. Rose and her sister, Ann, both worked at Sinclair’s in Cambridge as waitresses after high school. Her future husband, Morgan Searles, a veteran of the English Army of WW II and had grown up in Grenada, had immigrated to the United States in 1947 and was an occasional customer. It was Ann who was the matchmaker and set the wheels in motion and helped the two start dating. Rose and Morgan romance blossomed and they were married in 1949. They eventually settled in Burlington in 1956. Rose’s life revolved around her home and her family. She was a stay at home mom until her children were in school. She then worked part time at Sears as a clerk. She lovingly maintained her home. It was always perfect as though she was expecting company. Rose was an early riser and often spent the morning doing her housework. She was an avid reader. She shared hosting the holidays with her sister, Jean and her family. Each year they would take turns as hosts. She went on several cruises with husband, Morgan. On a regular basis, she would have her grandchildren for the day where they would spend some of the day shopping, then lunch which was her famous grilled cheese, and Reese’s Cups were always for dessert. The grandkids would tease her on the way she drove and how she would never get a speeding ticket. Rose kept her life simple and focused on what she saw was the most important, her home and her family.
Rose was the beloved wife of 67 years of Morgan A. Searles. She was the loving mother of Deborah Murphy & her husband Marc of Dover, NH, Ronald Searles & his wife Eileen of Wilmington, and the late Linda Searles. She was the sister of Jean Pitts of Burlington and the late Ann Klemas. Proud grandmother of Ronald Stokes, Patricia Stokes-Ramos, Donald Renkas, Devin & Brendan O’Leary, and Christopher & Ryan Searles. Great grandmother of Annalise Stokes, Ronald Stokes, Jr., Austin Ramos and Blake Ramos. Great great grandmother of Kenleigh.
