Obituary of Vyrl Mae Robinson
Vryl Mae (Atherton) Robinson, a woman who gave herself to others, passed away at her home on Saturday morning, December 3, 2016. The beloved wife of the late Morton T. Robinson, she was 80 years old.
Vyrl was the youngest of 9 children born to the late Frank and Mabel Atherton. She was born, raised and educated in Somerville. Vyrl was working as a Supervisor at Ace Electronics in Somerville where she met her husband Morton. They married on February 27, 1958 and settled in Burlington in 1964, where they raised their four children. They were married 50 years when Morton passed away in 2009. Vyrl had a wonderful relationship with her sister Emily who was not only her sister but her “best friend”. They talked to each other multiple times throughout the day on the phone. They were inseparable.
Vyrl was a woman with a huge heart. She was always looking out for and helping those in need. Vyrl was the type of woman who always put others first. She didn’t judge people she accepted them for who they were. She welcomed everyone to her table at the holidays. When her children were young she had an open door at her home for all their friends. She was a supportive, hard working and loving mother who was a role model for them. She taught them “tough love” and instilled in them the values that she was brought up with. When her son William and Raquel married, they had their wedding at home on January 11, 2010 a year after Morton Robinson had passed away, and she lovingly gave Raquel her husband’s wedding band on her wedding day. That was just the type of person she was – always thinking of others. Vyrl was a true animal lover. Many dogs had the privilege to receive her love and care at their Burlington house. As of February 14, 2016 she opened her loving home to a female Pekingese, Angel, born with dual cataracs and took her to receive excellent care at Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston. Vyrl’s Angel Pekingese girl lives with her brother Marley at William & Raquel’s home.
Her four grandchildren brought her so much joy. She was the type of grandmother that would play a game of cards with them or a puzzle. She was a woman of faith converting to Catholicism as a young child and was part of the church chorus. Her faith sustained her throughout her life and she was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s in Burlington. Vyrl will be remembered as a strong woman who had great love of her family and a woman who gave of herself to those in need.
Vyrl was the beloved wife of the late Morton T. Robinson. She was the loving mother of Wendell Robinson of Burlington, Wayne Robinson of North Reading, William Robinson & his wife Raquel of Woburn and Wanda Robinson of Hampton, NH. Proud grandmother of Michael, Taylor, Westley & William.
