We became friends while camping at Gray Homestead many years ago. Tom & Shirley were very special and we enjoyed yard sales, visits and meals together often. Shirley was one of the nicest persons we had ever met. Tom and Joe had Marine Corps in common with many conversations that always ended in Semper Fi, Shirley continued that tradition even after Tom's passing. We will miss her very much and may she be at peace with her family in heaven. God bless a very special lady.

I knew Shirley for over 45 yrs. She was a wonderful person .Shirley & Tom started coming to the Campground on Southport Island around the late 60's . Shirley & Tom became friends with my parents & myself right away . I think Shirley & my mother, Cora Gray, were off to Bingo the 1st night they met. They never stopped going to Bingo. If it wasn't a Bingo night, it was surely an Ice cream night. Shirley treated me like one of her kids . She was forever feeding me. Shirley & Tom would bring me home with them for visits . Also, Shirley & I went to see Jaws when it first came out . The ocean wasn't the same for Shirley for quite awhile. Ha Ha. Shirley & Tom, myself, & my parents would take trips to Northern Maine together . We had lots to eat & many laughs. Shirley & Tom would come up to Maine, even in the winter, to visit .We would always eat lots & laugh together. Later it was off to Bingo for Shirley & my Mother & sometimes Dottie Giddings & Pat .
I went in the Navy, and following my return, we picked up right where we left off. I met my wife & we returned to Southport . Shirley, Tom & Suzanne hit it off right away, as well as Suzanne's mom, Pat . After Tom passed away, Shirley stopped coming up to Maine. We would always call to chat . Suzanne & I would stop in to visit when we were down that way, and Shirley would be ready to feed us & have some great conversation . She would always want to know what was going on in Maine and we would share our stories .
We'll miss you Shirley
Love you ,
Stephen & Suzanne Gray
