Obituary of Robert Walsh
Robert Walsh, who worked for New England Telephone and Verizon for over 30 years passed away after a long illness on Monday night, August 29, 2011. He was 83 years old.
Bob was born in Boston, the son of the late Dennis and Catherine Walsh. He grew up in Belmont. He was a graduate of Belmont High School in 1947 and Boston College, Class of 1952. After College, he served 2 years in the Army attached to the 64th Heavy Tank Battalion in the Third Infantry Division. He received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He returned home and went to work at New England Telephone. He enjoyed his career, coworkers, and being a member of the I.B.E.W.
Robert had a number of activities and interests. He loved spending time at the cottage that he and his family helped build on Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, Maine. He enjoyed boating, gardening, and golfing. He played football at Belmont High School and was a loyal Boston College and Patriots Football fan. He was also a person who had a strong faith in God. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Margaret’s Church and attended Mass daily. He was a devoted husband to his wife Norma, who passed away in March of this year. He loved his children and being a part of their lives, and he was very proud to be “Pop Pop” to his 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Sept.2 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
