Obituary of Leo McLaughlin

Leo Joseph McLaughlin, a retired electrician for GTE Sylvania, passed away after a long illness at his home on Tuesday morning, March 6, 2012. He was 91 years old. Leo was born in Woburn, the son of the late Bernard and Rose McLaughlin. He grew up and was educated in Woburn. After Woburn High School, he furthered his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Leo worked as a groundskeeper alongside his father at the Woburn Country Club before enlisting in the Army to fight in World War II. He held the rank of Private First Class and was a member of Company L of the 124th Infantry Regiment. He fought in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, and the WW II Victory Medal. He worked for well over 25 years at GTE Sylvania as an electrician. After his retirement, he worked part time at Burlington Florist as a delivery person. Leo had a number of interests and activities. He and his late wife enjoyed “Square Dancing” which they did for over 35 years with a group called “Baldwin Apples”. They made many friendships through their square dancing that that they stayed close with throughout the years. Leo and his wife loved to travel and had taken 6 cruises to the Caribbean, 2 to Alaska and many other trips to such locations as Bermuda and Hawaii. They both also enjoyed bowling. Leo was a talented golfer when he was younger. He also enjoyed walking his dog and had a great interest in history. He was very blessed to have good health well into his late 80’s. Leo was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Boissonneault). He was the loving father of Michael & his wife Marjorie of Tewksbury, Gerard and Leo both of Burlington. He was the brother of George of Woburn, the late John “Jake” McLaughlin, Bernard “Butch” McLaughlin, and Lillian Pentland. He was the grandfather of Julie McLaughlin, Cailyn O’Neill, Sara McLaughlin. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, March 8 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
