Obituary of Albert Pare

Albert “Al” Paré, owner of Burlington Roofing for 30 years, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday night, March 7, 2012. He was 73 years old. Al was born in Boston, the son of the late Albert and Imelda Paré. He grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. He followed his brothers’ lead and enlisted in the Navy after High School and served on the USS Tarawa CV-40 for 4 years at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Al returned from active service to the roofing trade and became a member of Roofers Union, Local 33. Eventually, he started his own Company, Burlington Roofing, which specialized in commercial, slate, copper, and historical restoration for more than 30 years. Al has been a resident of Burlington for over 47 years and was an active member of the Burlington Knights of Columbus and Rotary Clubs and their charity work. He worked with several others to seek donations and build the field house at Burlington High’s Varsity Field. He restored several cars and trucks over the years and was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club. He loved being on the water and boating, especially helping friends reposition their boats from Boston to Florida. He was a supportive father and grandfather who stressed the importance of hard work to his sons and grandchildren. It can be summed up best by saying: he was just a “good guy.” Al was the beloved husband of 51 years of Phyllis (Arnold). He was the loving father of Mark & his wife Christina of Bedford and Chris of Key West, FL. Brother of Joan Martin of Topsfield, the late Gilbert, Richard, Arthur, Norman, and Paul Paré, and Irene Lepere. Grandfather of Alex, Brianna, Jack, Bobby, and Justin. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, March 13 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at Noon. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Al’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
