Obituary of Carol Ann Scott
Carol Ann (Forsythe) Scott, a woman devoted to her family, passed away after a courageous battle with Lymphoma on January 6, 2017. She was 80 years young.
Carol was born in Cambridge, one of five children born to Francis and Inez Forsythe. She grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School. A young man named Bill Scott saw Carol walking down the street and said “I’m going to marry that girl”. It was love at first sight! Bill kept his promise and 1 month later they were engaged. On October 12, 1957 they were married. They eventually settled in Burlington where they raised their five children. Carol was a stay at home mother caring for her very active children. She coordinated their activities and attended as many of their sporting events as possible. When the kids were off in school she went back to work as a payroll clerk at ABT Associates in Cambridge where she worked for 10+ years. When her children were all out of the house, Carol and Bill made a big life style change and moved to Cape Cod. They had been residents of East Falmouth for the past 30 years, where they were active in the Ashumet Valley community. Carol took a position as a clerk in the Building Department in the Town of Falmouth where she worked until her retirement. She found a second home in Christ the King Church, where she faithfully worshipped.
Carol was an an avid tennis player well into her 70s. She played regularly at the Burlington Country Club and at a number of locations on the Cape. She shared her love of the game with her husband and children. She followed professional tennis and golf and traveled to New York multiple times to see the US Open tennis tournament. She was a member of candlepin bowling leagues in her younger years. She was a passionate walker through her neighborhood and along the Cape shoreline. She also made shopping a sport. She had an extremely good eye for fashion and was always dressed to impress. Carol was stylish, and always did it on a budget, with Marshall’s and T J Max being her favorite bargain destinations.
Carol had a large family and was extremely close with her parents, siblings, cousins and nieces and nephews. She loved to host Christmas for the whole family. When the kids were young, the family cottage at Sheila’s Grove in Merrimack New Hampshire was the summer destination. When she made the move to Falmouth, she made sure there were plenty of bedrooms to accommodate all her family during the summer months. She loved taking the family Old Silver Beach, spending the day with their toes in the sand and taking a dip. She enjoyed traveling to see family living in San Diego, Utah, and Marco Island. Carol loved unwinding with the “Club Girls”. She especially loved sitting on her deck in the late day sun, sipping a glass of chardonnay, chatting about the family & day’s events with the love of her life, Bill.
Carol was the loving wife of 59 years of William R. Scott, Jr. She was the loving mother of Janice Lanzoni & her husband Paul of Portsmouth, NH, Cathleen Markow & her husband Gerald of Bolton, William R. Scott, III & his wife Jill of Woburn, Barry Scott & his wife Tami of Marco Island, FL, and Lisa McLean & her husband Steven of Burlington. She was the sister of David Forsythe of Reading, Frances Aronis of Billerica, Judith Goodwin of San Diego, CA, and the late Richard Forsythe of Beverley. Carol was the proud grandmother of Nicholas, Michael, Danielle & Guy Faretra, Ashley & Steven McLean, Alex & Tess Lanzoni and Dylan & Justin Scott and great grandmother of Shane, Nico, Dominic & Leo.
