Obituary of Jack Kirkland

John “Jack” Kirkland, a retired custodian and landscaper passed away on Tuesday, March 6 at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody. He was 64 years old. Jack was born Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His family moved from Cedar Rapids to Burlington when Jack was in Middle School. He was a graduate of Burlington High School where he excelled as on the Varsity Basketball Team. He served the Army during the Vietnam Era and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He loved working outdoors and worked as a landscaper for many years. He then worked first as a custodian in the Burlington School Department and then with the Medford School Department, where he retired from. Jack was a member of the American Legion in Burlington for almost 40 years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working around his yard. He was a loyal Boston Sports Fan. He loved watching all the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins teams. He loved talking sports with his family and friends. He regularly traveled to Florida to see the Red Sox play. Jack was the father of John T. Kirkland of Burlington. He was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Teresa Kirkland and brother of the late Kenneth E. Kirkland, Jr. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday March 13 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
