Obituary of Frances Jean Molony
Frances Jean Molony passed away unexpectedly at her home in Peabody on Sunday morning, January 29, 2017. She was 66 years old.
Fran was born in Warren, Ohio. Her family moved to Massachusetts when she was just a few years old. They eventually settled in Burlington where Fran was a 1968 graduate of Burlington High School. After high school, Fran went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University in their Nursing Program. She later pursued a nursing career in elder care, retiring as a Nurse Manager from Montachusett Home Care, where she had worked for 13 years.
Fran was a gifted artist. After experimenting with oil and water painting and stained glass, she began quilting in the early 1980s. She was very talented and often attended classes in different techniques; several of her art quilts have been displayed in traveling shows. She also founded quilting groups in California and in Bolton, and friends from those groups speak fondly of what a great mentor she was. Many of her quilts had themes linking them to family members, such as one with a Navy theme in honor of her father and one quilt incorpor
ating family photos that is treasured by her mother. Fran and her family lived on the west coast for a number of years before settling in Bolton where her children attended high school. As a natural and selfless caregiver, Fran was also a wonderful mother. Being a mother was Fran’s most cherished role. She was proud of her three children – Emily, Diane, and Adam – and all of their accomplishments. It is difficult to find a picture of Fran with her children without a smile on her face.
She was always very close with her siblings. In 2014, she moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody to be closer to her sisters Kathleen and Marie and her 95-year-old mother Mary Jane, who lives in Burlington. Time with her mom was important, both visits and daily phone conversations. Fran enjoyed travelling, often visiting her daughter Emily in Germany. On one memorable trip, she was joined by her sisters and several other family members to visit Ireland in 2009. In 2010 she was became a proud grandmother to Emily’s daughter Eva, who brought her great joy. Fran will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend.
