Obituary of Phyllis F. Lowe
Phyllis F (DeBenedetto) Lowe, passed away at her home with her two daughters by her side, on February 13, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Denver Lowe, she was 94 years old.
Phyllis was born in East Boston. She was raised and educated in Somerville. Phyllis was the daughter of Italian immigrants the late Domenico and Maria DiBenedetto. During World War II Phyllis working at the Charlestown Navy Shipyard. It was while working there that she would meet her future husband Denver. They married in 1944 and lived in Somerville for a period of time before moving to Burlington where they would raise their family. During their retirement years Phyllis and Denver lived in Falmouth. They eventually moved to Tewksbury to be closer to their children.
Phyllis worked part-time for local Burlington stores Almy’s and Filenes but her primary role was homemaker. She cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Phyllis was a wonderful cook with chocolate chip cookies being one of her favorite things to make. She took a few trips with her two daughters. They visited Washington, DC and in 1995 they took a trip to Italy to visit her family. She also took a trip to Puerto Rico to visit her son Bill while he was living there. Phyllis was an avid reader and loved a good mystery novel as well as watching crime stories on television. Nothing brought Phyllis greater joy than being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phyllis was blessed to live 94 years filled with and wonderful caring and loving family.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Denver Lowe. She was the loving mother of Carole Lowe of Tewksbury formerly of Winthrop, William Lowe & his wife Claire of Falmouth & Estero, FL and Beverly Obremski of Boston formerly of Burlington. Sister of Antonietta DiBenedetto of Italy and the late Julia Quaratiello and Tony DiBenedetto. Proud grandmother of Carole Reardon & her husband Rob of Billerica, Jennifer O’Neill of Billerica, David Obremski & his partner Marina Tat of Dracut, Stephanie Horton of Hudson and Michael Lowe & his wife Trudy of Baltimore, MD. Great grandmother of Jonathan, Ella, Jon, Madison, Francesca , Rosemary, Sara, Molly, Abby & Emily.
Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
