Obituary of John Henry Minteer
John Henry Minteer, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on February 14, 2017. The beloved husband of 52 years of Carol (Newton) he was 79 years old.
John was born, raised and educated in Portersville, PA. He was the son of the late Francis and Josephine Grim. It was while eating at a local restaurant in Portersville that he would become smitten by his Waitress Carol. They were married in 1963. After they were married they moved to Massachusetts so that Carol could begin her teaching career. While Carol was going to school John decided to enroll in Northeastern University where he would obtain his Bachelors and Master’s Degree. He went on to have a success and long career as an Electrical Engineer. He started his career working for RCA in 1969. He was very proud to be part of the design for the radar for the Apollo Lunar Module (LM) which eventually was the life support for the crew of the Apollo 13 when their CSM was disabled by an oxygen tank explosion in route to the Moon. After leaving RCA John went on to work at GE, Lockeed Martin and Hologic where he retired from.
John and Carol lived in Manchester By the Sea and Woburn before settling in Billerica in 1983. John was a man of deep faith. He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church for over 30 years. He held many roles at the church including Treasurer. He then joined the Grace Chapel Church in Lexington where he continued to be very involved in Church Ministry.
John and Carol and a wonderful life together. They traveled throughout Europe and the United States. They visited such destinations as Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland. He enjoyed being outdoors with such hobbies as hunting and fishing. John was a very “handy man”. He would tackle any project involved with electrical plumbing or carpentry. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do.
John was devoted to his family. He had great love for Sue and her husband Matt and their four children who brought him so much pride and joy. John will be remembered as a sweet man who was never angry, never hand a bad thing to say about anyone and was totally devoted to the love of his life his wife Carol.
John was the beloved husband of Carol (Newton). Loving father of Sue Frost & her husband Matt of Burlington. Proud grandfather of Andrew, Katie, Emily & Carly. Brother of Richard Grim of PA. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Chapel on April 3 at 10 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
