Obituary of Barbara Ann Devito

Barbara Ann (Glenn) DeVito, a woman devoted to her family and her faith, passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, with her family by her side on Tuesday morning, February 21, 2017. She was 83 years old. Barbara was born and raised in Everett. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Francis Glenn. Barbara and her husband Joe moved to Burlington in 1957 where they would raise their five children. Barbara was an excellent bowler and belonged to many leagues in Burlington throughout the years. She was a woman of deep faith and a devout catholic. For many years she attended daily Mass at St. Margaret’s. She also spent many years volunteering, including an Alzheimer's program, the food pantry and the senior center in Nashua, NH. She worked a number of part-time jobs throughout the years but her most cherished role was that of being a Mom. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She was always there for her family. When her children were young, the family belonged to the Burlington Country Club. She never missed one of their swim meets, or any other sporting event. The DeVito children enjoyed being with their cousins while Barbara and her sister Jane would sit and chat for hours. Barbara had a very special bond with her sister. They were best friends and did everything together. Barbara and Joe loved to travel, whether alone or in a large group of relatives and friends. Cruising was their favorite! Barbara was the wife of Joseph DeVito. Loving mother of Debra Thayer of Nashua, NH, Sandra Johnston & her husband Mark of Londonderry, NH, Deirdre DeVito of Nashua, NH, Pamela Williams & her husband Michael of Burlington and Joseph DeVito, Jr. & his wife Josephine of FL. Sister of the late Jane Hureau. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, held in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be private. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Barbara’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
