Obituary of Mario Carabetta

Mario Carabetta, a man with a great devotion to his family, passed away surrounded by those he loved on Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2017 at the age of 70. Mario was born in the town of Grotteria, Reggio Calabria, Italy. At the age of 21, Mario immigrated to the United States where he settled in Woburn. He married his wife, Gina in March of 1969. He worked as a mason in the Union for many years. For Mario, nothing was more important to him than his family whom he cherished. Mario and his wife, Gina, worked hard to keep their children, grandchildren, and extended family very close. His home is, and always will be, the place for family and friends to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. Mario was a longtime member of the Appian Club in Stoneham where he enjoyed participating in their social events. He also enjoyed hunting with his son and friends. He was passionate about working in his garden where he grew vegetables, fruit trees and flowers. Plenty of sauce and wine were made and were shared with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was always there with a helping hand. Mario was the heart of his family and he was beloved by all. His passing leaves his family and friends with heavy hearts, but wonderful memories. Mario was the beloved husband of 48 years of Eugenia “Gina” (Ientile). Son of the late Antonio and Maria Carabetta. He was the loving father of Antonio of Woburn, Vincenzo & his wife Jennifer of Burlington, Lidia Schwarz & her husband Jason of Woburn and Laura McLaughlin & her husband Joel of Woburn. He was the brother of Giuseppe & his wife Lina of Como, Italy, Attilio of Como, Italy, and the late Salvatore. Mario was the proud grandfather of Emily Carabetta, Olivia & Isabella Schwarz, and Amilia McLaughlin. He was the brother-in-law of Lina & Nick Patrizio, Joseph & Elaine Ientile, Cathy & Vinny Carella, Maria Fulciniti, and Rita Gibson. Mario was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at Noon. Visiting hours Wednesday at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
