Obituary of Marjorie Harris

Marjorie Harris, a retired Registered Nurse, passed away on Saturday March 18, 2017. She was 90 years old. Marjorie “Midge” was the daughter of the late George and Edith Green and was born in Grimsby, England. Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late Peter S. Harris. She was the loving mother of Christopher & his wife Catherine of Methuen, Stephanie Pearson & her husband Karl of Palm Harbor, FL, and Peter & his wife Jane of Tewksbury. Sister of the late George, Norman, and Dennis Green. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan & Sydney Harris of Methuen, Haley, Chase, & Cole Pearson of Palm Harbor, FL, and Devon, Trevor, & Peter Harris of Tewksbury. Marjorie and the Green family immigrated to the United States in 1928 when she was 2 years old and settled in Gloucester, MA. She graduated from Gloucester High School Class of 1944, went on to complete Nurse’s Training at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing (now Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and became a Registered Nurse. Over the years, Marjorie’s nursing career was extensive, including surgical nursing at hospitals and as an industrial nurse during the 50’s. She married in 1958 and shortly thereafter became a mother, housewife and business partner with her husband Peter who started his own business as a custom home builder. After 22 years, Marjorie decided to restart her nursing career, went back to school to become recertified as a Registered Nurse and accepted a position at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA where she had 14 wonderful years working on Floor 7 West until retiring in 1996. Marjorie had an adventurous side, taking to the seas in 1954 and sailing on the Queen Mary to England to tour throughout Europe with friends. She enjoyed skiing and cooking and quickly mastered famous Greek recipes passed down from relatives which became family favorites for many years. She enjoyed learning new skills with her husband including sewing, upholstery, culinary arts and other evening courses at Shawsheen Technical High School. Marjorie was known for her “green thumb” and during the 60’s and 70’s loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a devoted wife and mother, loving her family unconditionally. Her positive attitude, resilience, quick wit and intelligence inspired her family and friends and will be missed by all. A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Saturday, April 8 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service at the Funeral Home will follow at 11 a.m. Private burial for immediate family at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn, MA.
