Obituary of Virginia Ann Cahill
Virginia Ann (Goggin) Cahill passed away on Friday evening, April 14, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Alfred L. Cahill, she was 92 years old.
“Gea” as she was affectionately known, was born in Somerville. She was one of three daughters born to the late Walter and Bernadette Goggin. She was raised and educated in Medford and a 1939 graduate of Medford High School. Gea and Alfred would marry at St. Raphael’s Church on February 8, 1947 and would raise their five children in Medford.
Gea led a long and fulfilling life. She was a devote catholic and while living in Medford she was a parishioner at St. Raphael’s and a member of the Holy Name Society. She loved being a wife and mother and creating a loving home for her family. She was a terrific cook with her homemade spaghetti sauce being one of her specialties. Gea loved to open her doors to her family for the holidays. Her Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners were always memorable.
Gea worked for many years at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford as a Purchasing Assistant. She retired after 20 years of service to the hospital. In 1994 Gea and Al retired to Centerville. After Al’s death in 2001 she moved to Mashpee. Gea loved her years living in Cape Cod. Eventually she moved to Winchester to be closer to her children. Gea was so happy to see her children have wonderful lives and bless her with the birth of 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Gea will be remembered by her family as a selfless and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated much of her life to her family.
Gea was the beloved wife of the late Alfred L. Loving mother of Lawrence of Downingtown, PA, Karen Bielaski & her husband Robert of Arlington, Kevin & his wife Kathy of Rockland, Brian & his wife Debra of Amherst, NH and David & his wife Linda of Chelmsford. Sister of the late Eleanor Woodward & Marjorie Vercollone. Also survived by 12 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Wednesday, April 19 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Concluding with Funeral Services at 7 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Private burial will be held Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gea’s name may be made to VNA Care Network and Hospice, 100 Trade Center, Suite G-500, Woburn, MA 01801.
