Obituary of Steven Mazzocca
Steven P. Mazzocca passed away at his home on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Steven was born in Medford, the third son of the late Salvatore and Jean Mazzocca. He was raised and educated in Burlington, where he excelled in sports, especially baseball. After high school, he received training in computer technology and worked in the industry both locally and then in the San Francisco Bay area where he lived for 10 years. After returning to Burlington to live closer to family and friends, he earned a degree from the ITT Technical Institute and worked in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade for most of his career.
Steven loved sports, the outdoors and like his father and brothers was extremely competitive. He always looked forward to Mazzocca family gatherings and was an enthusiastic participant in the boisterous backyard (usually football) games that ensued. An avid golfer, Steven was always seeking the elusive hole-in-one. He loved playing softball with the 'Aces', was a loyal Boston Bruins fan, and had a long-time passion for fishing. Steven spent many days with his Paul Russo on the shores of Ipswich, Newburyport, Plum Island and Gloucester seeking the perfect striper or bass. Along with his dedication to sports, Steven developed a deep and abiding love and concern for the welfare of animals, especially dogs. He and his wife Lynda helped rescue dogs from the Caribbean to give them homes through a program based on Martha's Vineyard. They personally adopted three of their own and have given them a generous and loving home.
Steven was the loving brother of Carol Sennott and her husband Mark of Sherborn, Paul Mazzocca and his wife Maura of Burlington, Michael Mazzocca of Burlington, Salvatore Mazzocca III of East Freetown and James Roberge of Medfield. He was the loving husband of Lynda (Sears) Mazzocca of Allentown, NH, formerly of Burlington. He was the proud uncle of Zachary Mazzocca of Palmer, Nicholas Sennott of Los Angeles, Tara and Kaitlyn Sennott of Sherborn, Sophia and Salvatore Mazzocca of East Freetown, Leah Roberge of Brighton and Peter Roberge of Newton. Additionally, Steven leaves many cousins and will be missed by not only his family but also his innumerable friends.
