Thomas L. Callahan, Jr. a resident of Burlington for 39 years, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Monday morning, March 19, 2012. The beloved husband of 45 years of Jane M. O’Neil, he was 76 years old. Tom, the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Callahan, was born, raised and educated in Melrose. He went on to further his education graduating from Boston University. He was a member of the National Guard for over 10 years, even serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Tom had a successful career as an accountant working for Houghton Mifflin and later for the IRS. Tom was an avid reader enjoying mysteries, war and history novels. He found great joy in spending time with his family including his three young granddaughters. He coached his son Thomas in Little League for several years and was a fixture at all of his baseball, soccer, basketball and hockey games. Tom often enjoyed his annual summer vacation to Cape Cod. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother that will be missed. Tom was the beloved husband of 45 years of Jane M. O’Neil. He was the loving father of Thomas L. III & his wife Jennifer of Amherst, NH., and devoted Grampy of Molly Ann, Grace Patton & Abigail Rose. He was the brother of William of Stoneham and John of Malden. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, March 22 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., BURLINGTON at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Tom’s name may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1991.
