Obituary of Ronald L. Dill
Ronald L. Dill, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Purple Heart recipient, passed away on Monday morning, May 1, 2017. He was 69 years old.
Ron was born in Lawrence. He was the son of the late Marcus and Alice Dill. Ron was raised and educated in Methuen and a 1966 graduate of Tenney High School. During all four years of high school he was a member of the Cadets Club. Ron’s greatest ambition was to become a Marine and serve his country which he did admirably. He served during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969 and achieved the rank of Corporal. Ron was shot during the line of duty and as a result was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After leaving the Marines he went on to have a successful career as a Technician working for Schneeberger Technology and Linear Technology. Ron had many interests one of which was riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He enjoyed riding with friends and had taken many trips to Daytona Beach, Florida during Bike Week. In recent years Ron had a developed a passion for NASCAR racing following all the events on television and had attended races in Loudon, NH and Bristol, TN Ron enjoyed traveling whether it was a bike ride to Laconia, a trip to Wine Country in San Francisco or a trip to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods.
Ron would meet his soul-mate Elaine in 1988. They lived in Woburn until 1999 and eventually purchased a home in Burlington. They had a wonderful 25 years together until her death in 2014. Ron was proud of his son Shawn and his accomplishments. They had a close father/son bond. He was especially happy to be a grandfather to his five grandchildren who brought so much joy to his life.
Ron was the beloved husband of the late Elaine (McLatchy). He was the loving father of Shawn Dill & his wife Laura of Methuen and Sean McLatchy & his wife Cristina of Chelmsford. Proud grandfather of Shawn James & Alexis Rose Dill and Giana, Bella & John McLatchy. Brother of Karen Day & her husband Greg of Nashua and Earl Dill of Methuen.
Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Friday, May 5 at Noon Interment will follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, BURLINGTON. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in Ron’s name may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bld. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
