Obituary of Elizabeth M. Hall

Elizabeth M. (Kneeland) Hall, a woman of family and faith, passed away at Care One in Lexington on Monday afternoon, May 8, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Frederick Hugh Hall who passed away in 2012, she was 82 years old. Betty was born in Cambridge. She was one of six children born to the late James and Elizabeth Kneeland. Betty’s dad was in the military so in her early years she lived in Maryland and Georgia. After her dad retired from the Military, at the end of World War 11, the family settled in Somerville and Belmont. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s Grammar School in Somerville and Matignon High School in Cambridge. She was a devout catholic with strong faith and was very proud to have graduated from two catholic schools. Betty went on to graduate from Cambridge City Hospital with her degree in Nursing. Betty and Fred married on May 25, 1957. They would settle in Burlington in 1960 where they would raise their children. She started her nursing career working at Mass General Hospital. When her children were young she worked the 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. shift at the Choate Hospital in Woburn so she could be home with her children in the morning and get them off to school. Betty had a caring and nurturing personality and was happiest when helping care for others. Betty and Fred loved their retirement years. They traveled up and down the Eastern United States and Canada in their R.V. and ultimately spending their winters in Sweetwater, Florida. They also enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and Maine. In recent years Betty enjoyed spending summers in Provincetown with her son Michael. She also took trips to Maryland to visit her children Fred and Susan. She loved the holidays with Easter and Christmas being two of her favorites. Nothing made her happier than being together as a family. Betty led her children by example in her quiet, strong and unassuming way. She instilled values in her children that would lead them to have successful and happy lives. She took incredible pride in her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. It brought Betty great joy to see the close relationship her children had with each other and the way they continued to support and love each other as a family. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Frederick H. Loving mother of Frederick of Odenton, MD, Michael of Boston, James & his wife Barbara of Amherst, NH, Cheryl Herlihy & her husband Michael of Burlington, John & his wife Eileen of Derry, NH and Susan Maloney & her husband Stephen of Severn, MD. Devoted & proud nana of Caroline, Mary Jo & Keith Herlihy, Catherine, Ryan, Sean & Matthew Hall, and Elizabeth, Jerrilyn & John Rufo. Sister of Ann Kneeland of Belmont, James Kneeland of Watertown, Walter Kneeland of AZ, Kevin Kneeland of Billerica and the late Carol Mueller. Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Friday, May 12 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery Burlington.
