Obituary of Michael Hartigan

Michael W. Hartigan passed away peacefully at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading with his family praying for him at his bedside on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2017. He was 63 years old. Michael was born in Lowell, the 7th of 11 children born to the late Andrew and Mary Hartigan. Michael grew up in Billerica and was a graduate of Billerica High School Class of 1971. He studied at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst before transferring to the Univerity of Lowell where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Michael was a born salesman. He started his career as a real estate agent. Before long he earned his brokers license and for many years owned Hartigan Realtor Associates in Lowell. In recent years, he worked as a salesman for Sears and most recently for Ashley Furniture in Salem, NH. Michael was an avid reader. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved fishing and boating as a kid at the family cottage on Bustins Island, Maine. Through the years, he enjoyed many family times there as his siblings married and along came countless nieces and nephews. Michael leaves his 10 siblings; Patricia Hartigan Bloom of Mill Valley, CA, Peggy Reese of Wilmington, Jim of Danvers, Jack and his wife Linda of Palm Harbor, FL, Mary of N. Chelmsford, Janet Ostlund and her husband Ken of Burlington, Jeannie Bren, Lenny, Cathy and Andrea all of Billerica. Also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 47 Talbot Ave, North Billerica, on Thursday, June 1st at 11 am. The interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chelmsford. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements by the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.
