Obituary of Mary A. Curtis

Mary A. (Trascapolous) Curtis passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on Saturday morning, May 27, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Eugene Curtis, she was 89 years old. Mary was born in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Evangelos and Edith Trascapolous. She married her husband in 1946 and raised her family in Somerville. Mary worked very hard to provide for her family. She worked for many years at a local nursing home. Mary then went to work at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington for over 20 years. Mary loved her retirement years. She enjoyed traveling. She had taken trips to Florida, Las Vegas, Hilton Head and several road trips to Tennessee and Mississippi. She always looked forward to her trips to see her brother Jim in California. One of her most memorable trips was taking her grandchildren to Florida. Mary was not one to sit idle. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Center in Burlington where she made many friends. In 2012, Mary and her dear friend Claire Trent were Grand Marshalls in the Memorial Day Parade in Wilmington. Both Mary and Claire were very devoted to the Veterans. They made covers for the crosses of the soldiers who were MIA for the Wilmington Cemetery. Mary also sewed hats, cool ties and slippers for the local veteran heroes for 9 years Family was very important to Mary. She was blessed to live a life that spanned 89 years and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Eugene R. Curtis. She was the loving mother of Eugene R, Curtis, Jr. of Shirley, Maureen Biggie & her husband Thomas of Everett and Gail Witkus & her husband Mark of Woburn. Sister of the late Arthur & James Trascapolous. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128/95 Woburn side) on Wednesday, May 31 from 9:00 – 10:00 am Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Parish, 489 Broadway, Everett at 11 am Burial will be private. Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish, 489 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149
