Obituary of Lois Amy Garvey

Lois Amy (Mossman) Garvey, passed away at the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, New Hampshire on Monday morning, June 5, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Francis W. Garvey, she was 92 years old. Lois was born in Lexington. She was one of 9 children born to the late the late St. Clair and Rosemary Mossman. She was raised and educated in Lexington and then Somerville. Lois and her husband Frank married and settled in Woburn where they would raise their two children Sandra and Bruce. Lois worked as a Social Worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for close to 15 years. During their retirement years Lois and Frank divided their time between Deerfield Beach in Florida and Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire. She shared her love of Lake Winnipesauke with her children and grandchildren with many of them gravitating to the lake either as a permanent or vacation home. Lois was an outgoing woman who led a full and active life. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, shopping and going out to dinner with family and friends. Lois’s family was very important to her. She was a supportive and loving mother to her two children Sandra and Bruce. In 2009 Lois experienced what no mother should experience the death of her son Bruce. Lois was blessed to be an important part of her grandchildren’s lives and see the birth of her 9 great grandchildren. In recent months she had moved to New Hampshire to be closer to her daughter Sandra who lovingly cared for her during her as her health began to decline. Lois was the beloved wife of the late Francis W. Garvey. She was the loving mother of Sandra O’Flaherty & her husband Peter of Gilford, NH formerly of Billerica and the late Bruce Garvey. Proud grandmother of Cheryl Burnham, Chad Garvey & his wife Beth, Curt Garvey, Jason O’Flaherty & his wife Rachel and Amy DeYoung & her husband Marc. Great grandmother of Ashley & Andrew Burnham, Dylan, Dakota & Drew Garvey, Colin & Payton DeYoung and Erica & Emily O’Flaherty. Sister of Evelyn Bartosiak of Quincy, the Late Florence Russell, John Mossman, Charles Mossman, Ethel Remis, Marion Alger, Mildred Smith, and Elizabeth Norton. Mother-in-law of Kathy Garvey. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Thursday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-8 p.m. Interment will be private.
